Author, screenwriter, and director Fred Strydom studied Film and Media at the University of Cape Town and was a member of the Cape Comedy Collective. Fred has two published novels. His debut, the speculative epic THE RAFT was followed by psychological thriller THE INSIDE-OUT MAN. Both novels have sold internationally, and the latter was optioned for the screen by LA producers Davids Canton Productions. Fred was hired to adapt his novel and is now attached to the project as director. Fred adapted Ania Alhborn’s novel BROTHER for Davids Canton Productions; he is adapting an Afrofuturistic feature in the vein of BLACK PANTHER for US-based Xenopoulos Productions; he has written the feature I CARRY YOU ALWAYS for Local Motion Pictures which is in production at M-Net and the features KNUCKLEBONE and FLESH for Helena Spring Productions.
Strydom wrote the script for Gurinder Chadha’s new film COMMON PURPOSE, a feature drama adaptation of a work of non-fiction, and immediately after, wrote another script for Chadha, THE MAN WHO CHANGED THE WORLD. In television, Fred is currently a staff writer on the forthcoming COOPER (Fremantle & Quizzical Pictures for the BBC, Stan, and Showmax) and was a staff writer on KINGS OF JOBURG (Ergo Films, Netflix). Fred wrote the series SQUAD for Roots production studios which was shortlisted in the best screenplay category at the Al Dana Drama Awards 2025 in Bahrain. And wrote the series DARA which was a smash hit across the Middle East in 2025.
Fred has a range of original feature screenplays ranging from African gothic to sci-fi thrillers and is a writer and director for hire.
